SPRING 2022 GIRLS SEASON

Parents can register now. No payments will be due until February. Early registered players may be contacted about informal throw and catch practices that may be held before the season begins.

There is a $30 annual fee to US Lacrosse that must be paid by all players to be able to play in the league. That must be completed by the 1st practice date. Parents of registered players will receive a medical form through email that will have to be completed before the 1st practice.

3RD AND 4TH GRADE PROGRAM

The 3/4 age group will play 5v5 small field games on Sunday's vs. various teams from across the Kansas City Metro. Games will likely be at 12pm and 1pm. Many Sunday's will have doubleheaders. In previous years, games were at Blue Valley North.

Season Goals:

Teach the girls the basics of lacrosse and learn how to throw and catch a lacrosse ball.

Season Length:

Practice will begin the week of March 7th (missing practice for Spring Break is acceptable). Games will start in late March and go until early May, skipping Easter weekend.

Cost:

$100 (includes Westside Wild reversible jersey, if you want the skirt as well it is extra)

Practice Times:

Stickwork and Conditioning (passing, catching, shooting) Tuesday or Wednesday 4:30 to 5:45pm.

Friday Practice (drills and scrimmaging) 4:30 to 5:45pm.

Players can choose whether Tuesday or Wednesday works best for schedule.  If can only attend one practice for the whole week, still able to play in games for 3/4 age group.

Practice Location:

The stickwork and conditioning practices will be at Walnut Grove Elementary 119th and Pflumm. The Friday practice will be at Little Mill Creek North Field 6, 79th and Cottonwood.

*Any Lawrence players will have a weekday practice in Lawrence but will practice with the rest of the team on Friday's.

Team Size:

To ensure adequate playing time, team size will be capped at 9 players. We will put two teams in the league if numbers allow but will not be putting more than two teams in.

5th AND 6th GRADE PROGRAM

There will be 3 ways to participate in the 5/6 program. In addition to details mentioned below, the girls may from time to time get to scrimmage girls from other programs in the metro in the small field 6v6 format.

OPTION 1 (recommended option):

Play in Sunday metro league at Blue Valley North vs. teams from across the metro in a full field 12v12 format. Play in Friday evening 6v6 4 team mini league vs fellow players on Westside Wild teams.

Both formats help girls develop important game playing skills and each has strengths and weaknesses. Playing as much as possible is particular beneficial for beginner players.

Season Length:

Practice will begin the week of March 7th (missing practice for Spring Break is acceptable). Games will start in late March and season will end the weekend of May 14th or May 21st.

Games:

Probably 10-13 games in the Sunday metro league including year end tournament. 6v6 league will target 10 games including playoffs.

Cost:

$150 (includes Westside Wild reversible jersey, if you want the skirt as well it is extra, $25 discount for players who already have a jersey)

Practice Times:
Stickwork and conditioning (passing, catching, shooting) Tuesday or Wednesday 4:30 to 5:45pm.

Friday practice (drills, game situation) 5:45pm to 6:45pm before game play on Friday evenings. Game play will be one hour ending at 7:45 pm.

Player can choose which day works best for stickwork and conditioning. Players will be separated into small groups with peers at a similar stick skills level.  If a player has a conflict with both chosen stickwork and conditioning practice times, a player can commit to do 30 minutes of wall ball practice on her own and some extra running on her own.

Practice Location:

Stickwork and conditioning practices will be at Walnut Grove Elementary 119th and Pflumm.

The Friday practice/game location will be at Little Mill Creek North Fields 6 and 7, 79th and Cottonwood.

*For any players from Lawrence, we are making arrangements for a coach to run the stickwork and conditioning practice in Lawrence.

Team Size:

To ensure adequate playing time, team size will be capped at 19 players including a goalie for the 12v12 league and 10 for the 6v6 league. Our goal is to have two teams in the KC metro league.

The two teams would largely be split along the following lines:

Players from local Catholic schools one team in Sunday league, two teams Friday evening.

Olathe, Lawrence, Shawnee, other players will combine for one team in the metro league and two teams in the Friday evening league.

We are in discussion to potentially add other teams from alternative clubs to the Friday evening 6v6 league.

*The 6v6 league will use corner pockets as goalies but the 12v12 league will require a goalie. Preferably, there will be 2 girls willing to try goalie on each team allowing each to split time between goal and field play. Coaches will provide goalie equipment and are willing to do extra goalie practices for those interested.
OPTION 2:

If a player has a conflict with the Friday evening mini-league or the Sunday afternoon KC metro league, she can play in one or the other while skipping the conflict day. Player must be able to make the stickwork and conditioning practice in this case.

Cost:

$125 (if only playing the metro league, includes jersey, not the optional skirt)

$100 (if only playing the Friday night league, includes jersey, not the optional skirt)

OPTION 3:

If your daughter is not quite sure whether she wants to play lacrosse, she can come to stickwork and conditioning practices. A lacrosse stick will be provided and she can have a catch with a fellow beginner and participate in select drills.  She can gauge whether it is a sport she wants to play in the future.
